Tour through Burlington

After a long breakfast consisting of bread, jam and nice talks, we’re ready to head into the second day – and first of all go to a supermarket close by.

It’s important to have sufficient amounts of basic things like bread, milk, jam, potatoes and other things at home so we got a bit of this and that. After they’ve been put into the fridge our first real “trip” was going to start: driving to Mount Nemo which is more a big rock than a mountain but real close by (even for german standards).

In summer there can be found people climbing and bouldering there, on top of that you get a really nice view at the area all around Burlington, on sunny and clear days even till Toronto. The 20 min hike was not only worth the view though, we were walking through a really nice forest, singing birds everywhere and sparks of sun shining through the trees.

Canadians over here also seem to be really into playing golf so we weren’t surprised to see not only one big golf court from the viewpoint with beautiful lakes that reflected the sun. So beautiful! On our way back to the car we so rarely spoke but just sucked in our first Canadian sun, air and impressions.

Back at the car we decided to drive to another place called Crawford Lake. At least we thought so, sadly we weren’t able to find it even after 2h of driving, none of us got Google Maps offline yet so we couldn’t look it up. So we decided to come back to this at another time and although we haven’t been successful finding the lake it wasn’t too bad as we could really get some nice impressions of the Canadian way of living especially in smaller villages. What seemed to be a big mistake in the beginning should end as a nice little roadtrip all through Oakville, Burlington, Mississauga and many more smaller villages.

After taking some rest in the Hagebrothers Quarter (HQ) and making plans for the next days to come, we drove down to lake Ontario. Only 19 square kilometres in size it is the smallest of the big canadian lakes and there’s the border to the US going right through its middle.

A little bit of walking at the lakeshore, listening to the waves and sharing interesting talks while heading for Brant Street Pier, an man-made structure which reaches about 30m into the lake containing benches and a lookout-platform.

We took a lot of photos there while walking farer out and up and where in the end surprised by the beautiful view onto Burlington with a great sunset-sky.

Many people passing by were eating icecream and so we were eager to get some, too. Quite close by there was a small shop selling big portions of ice cream for a pretty fair price. We got some “Dark Choco Chip Cookie” to eat on our way back to the car.
