Roadtrip Day 5 / Montreal and old friends

Montreal was one of the cities we highly anticipated as we had heard a lot of things about it. So we made some plans what to see and where to go. In the end it didn’t work out as we planned but we actually had a really good time and even met some nice American girls.

Before we talk about them though let’s start at the beginning of our day which happened to be at the Walmart parking lot we found in the late evening. Breakfast then consisted of cereals with milk after which we headed towards our first destination: St. Joseph Oratory

When you see it from the outside you would think it’s a quite old building (actually it is) and looks the same inside. It doesn’t though – being quite modern and with a lot of concrete. Just get and impression by those pictures:

Afterwards we headed towards Mount Royal which is a lookout high above the city. As we didn’t want to pay for parking we searched for a nice spot in the side streets just below and actually were lucky enough to find one. The last nicht hasn’t been too restful though so we decided to take a short nap…

…which actually wasn’t that short and also just a nap for Tobias, Sebastian did use the opportunity to take some pictures around our car.

And then we finally got up and started our way up to Mount Royale!

After only a few minutes of walking we met a American family who travelled to Montreal for a wedding and was taking the opportunity to see a bit of the surrounding spots.

They didn’t know how to get to the top though so we helped out (or google maps did) and walked together with them which led to a nice picture of Sebastian and me that this time isn’t just a selfie.

Afterwards we drove downtown and actually managed to find free parking again just a few streets outside the centre with a nice little walk of 20 minutes to get to Old Montreal. For everything down there I will just leave you with some pictures to speak for themselves:

This day was also a bit special – it should be our first night where we’d sleep in a proper bed again and not just a car seat. I happened to know someone back from my exchange semester in Denmark who studied in Montreal.

He wasn’t there yet anymore though but instead staying at his parents’ house which is in a small city right in the middle between Montreal and Quebec City (our next day’s destination) and he offered us to come by and crash at his place for one night.

It turned out to be a really amazing evening filled with a lot of good conversations, smoking cigars with his dad and him and exchanging latest travel stories. And with these words I’m gonna end today’s post – see you tomorrow!
